July is shaping up to be a tasty month in T&T with events like a dinner club promising Creole favourites paired with great conversation and a culinary trip to Italy via Chef Vittorio’s four-course Italian feast in St. Anns.

As always, you can get gourmet groceries and prepared foods at the monthly UpMarket in Woodbrook and this month at two places in South — UpMarket South at Oasis and the Gourmet Market by XE at the Preysal Community Center.  Be sure to make time for the fantastic Mango Festival and the Pot Spoon Throwdowns in Lopinot and Mayaro.

Tuesday, July 3, FULL MOON ITALIAN SAMPLING DINNER, by Chef Vittorio from Garibaldi’s (St. Anns, Trinidad).  Take a “culinary voyage around Italy, from the rolling Hills of Tuscany, through urban Milan down to the spicy flavours of Sicily. Saturday, July 7, 9:30am – 3pm, UPMARKETWoodbrook Youth Facility (Woodbrook, Trinidad).  Walk with your grocery bags and cash for Trinidad’s premier gourmet market featuring local food artisans, caterers, chefs, farmers alongside artists and other artisans selling jewelry, soaps and lotions, art and more. FREE ENTRY.

Sunday, July 8, 9am – 6pm, MANGO FESTIVALUWI Field Station (Mt. Hope, Trinidad). There’ll be mangoes everywhere at this celebration of the diversity and utility of the beloved mango. Get ready for tasty treats like mango ice cream, sweet mango chutney and mango wine, and don’t miss the mango sucking competition (held ‘after lunch’), mango chow contest, horseback riding, and other entertainment. Sunday, July 8, 11am – 6pm, LOPINOT POT SPOON THROW DOWN (Lopinot, Trinidad).  It’s the TDC’s Pot Spoon competition, this time in the village of Lopinot where visitors can enjoy local Spanish dishes made by passionate village chefs, a cooking competition, live entertainment, a children’s play park and mini farmers/crafts market.  Link to competition press release.  FREE ADMISSION.

Sunday, July 8, 3pm – 5:30pm, SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEA at Ortinola Great House (Maracas Valley, Trinidad).  Take your Sunday tea service alongside savoury and sweet treats in Trinidad’s most scenic location.  Cost is $125/person and includes a choice of three savoury and two sweet items, as well as a choice of beverages (teas, coffee & juice).  Reservations are required – email or call at (868) 696-1507 .  $

July 17th – August 2nd, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5pm-8pm, BREADS & MUFFINS COURSE at TTHTI (Chaguaramas, Trinidad).  Cost is $1,550.  $

Wednesday, July 18, 2pm-5pm, CHEF-TO-CHEF CHOCOLATE TRAINING SESSION at the Trinidad Hilton (Port of Spain, Trinidad).  Delft Cocoa Plantations presents Chef Bart Van Cauwenberghe from Belgium in a demonstration, tasting and discourse on the use of chocolate in trendy recipes.
