West was up a few Saturdays ago for Part Two of the East/West Doubles Challenge (part one took place a few weeks ago in the East.) We braved the weather with challenge organizers David Wears and Nigel Reid, QD Ross of Bring It to the Table, TriniCooks‘ Joel & Mirella Villafana, blogger & DJ Cheyenne Baptiste, photographer Peter Lim Choy … Continue reading

Sundays are for Lunch @ CHAUD!

Confession time…we’re not big fans of buffets. Oh, we love the idea of a buffet, but the sad truth is that we don’t like the idea of the mix n’ match cuisines on a buffet.  Not to mention that most buffets are fraught with the danger of overcooked or “old” food. CHAUD’s new Sunday Lunch (brunch) … Continue reading

ARTHUR’S GROCERY & BAR (Rampanalgas, Trinidad)

On your way to Toco or visiting a beach in Northeastern Trinidad? ARTHUR’S GROCERY & BAR is the place to stop for drinks, snacks and most importantly, a full-on lunch. Folks swear by Ms. Jenny’s crayfish and the crab & dumpling at Arthur’s (pre-order both because they sell out quickly).  You’ll also find the usual Saturday favorites … Continue reading

THE CANVAS BISTRO & BAR (St. James, Trinidad)

An all-day breakfast is what drew us to THE CANVAS BISTRO & BAR.  Sleek and brightened up by a large storefront window, THE CANVAS feels like an upscale version of a diner.  And like a good diner, the menu offers a variety of solid breakfast options with everything from pancakes and waffles to buljol & bake. … Continue reading

Breadfruit Pumpkin Soup (Recipe)

We received our first October organic produce basket from Avondale Farms (Brasso Seco, Trinidad) on Saturday! The basket had one ripe sweet-smelling breadfruit, a zaboca, figs, ripe pommecytheres, portugals, oranges, dried coconut, sea moss, tannia, yam, a callaloo (dasheen) bundle and herbs.  Since the breadfruit was so ripe we used it immediately.  First up was a lovely Breadfruit Pommecythere … Continue reading
