The new year kicks off with great food and wine events in T&T from afternoon teas to a wine training session along with cooking, baking and cake artistry classes.

Sunday, January 6, DIM SUM at Kam Wah Restaurant (Port of Spain, Trinidad).  Monthly dim sum by carts at Kam Wah featuring “trolleys brimming with suckling pig, Peking duck, mimosas and more!”  $

Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays, January 7th – February 6th, 5pm-8pm, PROFESSIONAL BARTENDING (short course) at Chaguaramas Campus of TTHTI (Trinidad & Tobago Hospitality & Tourism Institute).  This short course is $1,650.  Email info@tthti.edu.tt or call (868) 634-4250 for more information.  Link to TTHTI 2013 short course schedule.  $

Saturday, January 12, 12pm-3pm, WINE TRAINING SESSION with Lisa Johnstone at Fanatic Kitchen Studio (Port of Spain, Trinidad).  The session is “designed for wine enthusiasts seeking refresher knowledge…or someone enjoys wine but would like some more knowledge on what they like and an understanding where to find it .”  Cost is $200/person, contact lisajohnstone80@gmail.com to reserve.  $

Saturday, January 12, 9am-12pm, ALL THE BEST BREADS: Lessons with Wendy Rahamut at Rahamut’s School of Cooking (San Fernando, Trinidad).  Cooking classes are demonstration classes, conducted by Wendy.  Students can sample the food prepared and recipe handouts are provided.  Cost is $400; call (868) 653-1478 or 357-0927 to book; rahamut@gmail.com.  $

Saturdays, January 12, 19, 26th, SAN ANTONIO GREEN MARKET Sale in Santa Cruz (Trinidad).  The market is located on Saddle Road, near Cutucupano Road in Upper Santa Cruz and sells fresh “produce (including unusual indigenous fruits, vegetables, herbs and seasonings), specialty foods (pastelle, payme, cocoa powder, goat’s milk) andartisanal items (wooden bowls and platters, handmade soaps etc).”  San Antonio Green Market Website and Facebook Page.

Tuesdays, January 15th – January 31st, 6pm-8:30pm, ITALIAN COOKING WITH IAN ROOKS at Fanatic Kitchen Studio (Port of Spain, Trinidad).  Four hands-on and demo sessions covering antipasti, pasta & two sauces, second courses and desserts respectively. Wednesdays starting January 30th, KIDS’ COOKING CLASSES with Gourmet Kids Culinary Club at Pleasantville Secondary (San Fernando, Trinidad).  The 2013 Kids Culinary Club starts on January 30th and is held every Wednesday from 4:30pm.  This is an “afterschool cooking club for [children]  7-16 years, where kids learn cooking fundamentals, social etiquette and healthy nutrition.”  (868) 330-2668 or 340-5703; gourmetkidsculinary@gmail.com.  $
