Just two minutes from the airport, SYPS RESTAURANT serves one of Tobago’s best breakfasts (it’s also a good choice for lunch and dinner). We’re only bummed that we just discovered Merle Hackett’s restaurant with its friendly service and lovely garden views framed by huge plantation-style shuttered windows.
Merle does all the cooking, whipping up breakfast delights almost every morning. Pancakes, bacon and eggs share the menu with local classics like buljol (salt fish), flying fish or smoked herring with an order of coconut bake, sada roti or fry/fried bake. Fry bake can be a wondrous piece of dough and SYPS makes a perfect made-to-order fry bake…golden brown, crispy but still pliant on the outside with soft airy innards.
SYPS also has a full coffee bar (with lovely cappuccinos) and fresh seasonal juices made from local fruits including portugal, grapefruit and passion fruit. Meanwhile, lunch and dinner meals at the restaurant are a nice mix of local food and international fare with sandwiches and salads for lunch, and grilled lobster, lamb chops and fish entrees for dinner.
